2015 - The year of growth and international expansion
The 2015 was a very successful year for SAPIE. The organisation grew from 11 members in 2014 to nearly 30 at the end of 2015. Our members were featured on covers of national print magazines such as Forbes, Trend, Hospodarske noviny; with a few of them awarded in the Forbes 30 under 30, some awarded the New Europe 100 Challengers for 2015. We have created partnerships in V4, Austria and Brussels.
At the beginning of the year, the Slovak President Andrej Kiska wished us an innovative and successful New Year. We joined forces with his team, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to build the brand of a World-Class Slovakia during presidential visits across Europe. The President decided to take a group of successful and startup entrepreneurs to help them understand other ecosystems, and meet interesting local players and academia.
We have continued our work with the Ministry of Finance in developing the Startup Strategy for Slovakia, which has been approved by the government in June 2015. As part of the 18 measures, the Simplified Joint Stock company was introduced and will be available for innovative companies and investors from January 2017. I would also like to mention the startup visa program, initiative to create an angel investors network and support the VC industry.
SAPIE has established itself as a content partner and expert on topics related to digital entrepreneurship, e-commerce and innovation policy. Our members have share their expertise with audiences in Bratislava, Vienna and Budapest.
We are proud of the year we had. We have managed put SAPIE on the map in Slovakia, the region and even the EU.
2016 will be a year full of opportunities to showcase the talent, endurance and ingenuity of people creating a world-class Slovakia during our Presidency of the Council of the EU.
